Chelsea Benedict, LMSW

Chelsea Benedict is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state

of Michigan. She graduated from Kalamazoo College with a Bachelor

of Arts in Classical Civilizations and Neuroscience in 2019. She then

received her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the

University of Michigan in 2022, and completed a 2-year social

work fellowship in Michigan Medicine’s Department of

Child/Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry.

Chelsea specializes in working with children and adolescents

(age 0-18) experiencing many different concerns including: anxiety,

phobias, obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, trichotillomania

(hair-pulling), trauma symptoms, depression, self-esteem issues, and

difficulty managing stress. Chelsea also enjoys working with caregivers looking to better support their children who have emotional and behavioral concerns, as well as with families seeking to improve communication and relationships. She has additional experience with children and adolescents who are experiencing anger, ADHD symptoms, school performance issues, social skills challenges, developmental delays, and sleep issues.

Chelsea’s clinical experience has led her to a collaborative approach to therapy, teaming with clients to find the best approach to address their primary concerns. She often utilizes cognitive behavioral interventions, looking at the interaction between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and exploring how to establish more helpful patterns.

One of Chelsea’s biggest passions is working with young children (ages 0-5) who have experienced traumatic situations, such as past abuse, loss of or separation from a loved one, or serious medical procedures. Chelsea comes from a Child-Parent Psychotherapy model of trauma play therapy, actively engaging the child and caregiver(s) in therapy sessions to help families heal and grow after stressful experiences.

Outside of her clinical work, Chelsea loves reading (mostly fantasy), baking (preferably chocolatey desserts), participating in her local church community (frequently potlucks and bake sale fundraisers), and spending time with her family (especially going on walks).
