Jo-chen Hou, PhD, LLP
Jo-chen Hou holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Limited
Licensed Psychologist with the state of Michigan. Jo completed her training
from Moody Theological Seminary in 2013. Before she started her second
career as a clinical therapist, she received a PhD from Yale University in
Biology in 1999 and has worked as a researcher in neuroscience field.
Jo provides psychotherapy to clients from adolescents to adults experiencing
anxiety, depression, burnout, and difficulties for decision making related to
academic, professional, relational, and life-stage demands. Her approach
integrates evidence-based modalities with a focus on emotional regulation,
interpersonal functioning, and resilience. Her work also incorporates attachment-informed and trauma-informed perspectives to help clients understand their struggles with compassion and clarity. She can offer faith-integrated therapy that aligns psychological treatment with spiritual values when needed.
Jo is also experienced with psychological evaluation for children, adolescents, and adults to assess conditions such as mood disorders, attention/executive function deficits, learning deficits, and personality disorders. The evaluation is a great way to help client’s care team to personalize treatments based on their unique profile with strengths and weaknesses.
